The Inez Perkins Scholarship

The family of the late Inez Perkins, a long-time community leader, have established a memorial scholarship to support a student going into the nursing health field. The Inez Perkins Memorial Nursing Scholarship will help a person each year fulfill their dream of becoming a nurse.

Inez Perkins moved to Duncan in 1940 when her husband, J.C. Perkins was employed by Halliburton.  J.C. and Inez had four sons - Jay of Baton Rouge, LA; Ken of Evergreen, CO; Phil of Nashville, TN; and Keith of Duncan, OK.  They and their families are honoring their mother by establishing this scholarship.

Inez was very devoted to her family.  Her love and concern for children continued later in life when she served on the Stephens County Youth Shelter board for many years.  She also befriended many of the “bus kids” at First Baptist Church in Duncan, and would sit with them during the worship service.

Inez had a love for gardening and canning vegetables, and would often share her canned foods with others.  She had a compassionate heart and she enjoyed helping others.

Inez Perkins lived a full life for 85 years.  She struggled with health issues for many years, and she learned the value of caring doctors and nurses.  She always felt she was well taken care of and appreciated the loving care her caregivers provided.

The family wants to honor Inez whose compassion and caring for others inspired this scholarship.
