Athletes participating in every sport at the collegiate and professional levels rely on an athletic trainer, but unfortunately, this is not always the case with high school athletes. The DRH Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Program hopes to address this issue in Stephens and Jefferson counties.

The first program has been in place at Duncan High School since 2017, with Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer, Amanda Woods, M.Ed, LAT, ATC.

A Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer specializes in:

  • Injury prevention

  • Emergency care

  • Clinical diagnosis

  • Therapeutic intervention

  • Rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions

  • Establishment of dietary and fitness plans

  • Design of sports medicine and emergency preparedness curriculum

  • Concussion management

  • Injury prevention talks for students, parents, and coaches

  • Teach student trainers how to tape injuries and help with the rehabilitation of injured athletes
