Bitsy and Henry Bonney Memorial Nursing Scholarship

If two were ever meant for each other, it was Henry and Bitsy Bonney. Having met while attending Yazoo City High School (Mississippi), they didn’t let distance or time diminish their love.

Henry received a football scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, and he was a member of the 1955 National Championship team and part of Bud Wilkinson’s 47 straight victories. Meanwhile, Bitsy attended Mississippi State College for Women and Millsaps College. After graduation, Bitsy moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be with Henry. They were married in 1959 and made Duncan their home in 1961.

Henry built a successful law practice and dedicated nearly 60 years of his life, helping individuals and businesses on a range of legal matters. He truly loved the law. Bitsy was an active member of the community teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church-Duncan and participating in the Mary Martha group at First Methodist Church. She was involved in various social clubs included PEO Chapter EE and the Hestian Study Club. She loved to play bridge was a member of not one but three separate bridge clubs!

But their real passion was spending time with family. Throughout the years, trips were commonplace, as was the entire family meeting in Dallas for the annual OU/Texas football game – a 40-year tradition!

Henry and Bitsy’s children and their families established the Bitsy and Henry Bonney Memorial Nursing Scholarship to honor these two dedicated, compassionate people.
